“You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times,
‘You shall not murder’;
and ‘whoever murders shall be liable to judgment.’
But I say to you…”

see Matthew 5:21-22

WHAT MORE DOES JESUS SAY? Isn’t the sixth commandment – “Thou shalt not murder” – pretty clear? It’s about life or death; God commands us to choose and preserve life, to avoid killing people, even those we hate. It is just wrong, evil, to do what Cain did to Abel. Life or death – God is about life. But Jesus reminds us of the nature of life and relationships God has in mind.

NOT MANY OF US would claim to face life or death decisions every day. Not unless we work in a hospital, fight crime, are engaged in combat, etc.  But the way Jesus explains the sixth commandment, we realize we all face LOVE OR DEATH decisions on a regular basis.

Q: What exactly does Jesus say about the sixth commandment? What is this “love or death” business?
