But you will receive power
when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”

Acts 1:8

SPECIAL POWERS. Did Peter, James, John, Mary, et al, understand what kind of power Jesus was promising in the Spirit? If you have grown up with, or spent time among, certain crowds of Christians, you have heard many different things about the nature of the power of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes, people combine active imaginations with religious ambition, and all kinds of things are promised, or pursued. But it is also true to say different groups of Christians emphasize different aspects of the Holy Spirit’s ministry.

BUT WHAT KIND OF POWER do we see, and for what purposes is this power given, when the Holy Spirit descends on the first generation of Church as described in Acts and in the Epistles?

I BELIEVE SPECIAL POWER IS available to each of us who believe and follow Jesus, given to us freely by GOD. But accessing this POWER is not about Christian rituals, incantations, or deciphering gnostic secrets. It is about SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS, and overcoming resistance.

HONORING BIFF

Our dear brother died last weekend. Most of us learned the sad news on Monday, and we have been in shock and in mourning.

A plan will come together soon, to share memories, but also to honor Biff in appropriately tangible ways. The specific date has not yet been chosen, but it may be good, for many reasons, to program an event for a Sunday during the first part of August, around the time Biff would have returned to Seattle for the visit he had planned. Stay tuned.
