They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”

John 6:42

They were skeptical. It is hard to believe, and difficult to understand, how the Son of God would be born to particular parents, in a particular place, with a particular body. But, despite their skepticism, we sing, O Come, O Come, Immanuel, every Christmas. It is one of the paradoxical mysteries at the core of our faith: Jesus of Nazareth, becoming known as Christ, is God incarnate.

He is special, he is unique, but also….ONE OF US.

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,
and will call him Immanuel.”

Isaiah 7:14

“The Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us.”

John 1:14
