WE MOVE QUICKLY through the remaining days of Lent; death gives way to life. It does not give way easily, though. We mark this by hearing Jesus’s Seven Words from the Cross and coming around a virtual table to share the Sacrament.
Sunday morning, we return to reflect on the shock and joy of the Resurrection, hearing Luke’s account of the women and men who first experienced the presence of Christ, having been raised to life!
Make sure to have bread and grape juice (or red wine) handy, as we share the loaf and cup tomorrow evening.
Young Church
Here are some Bible passage readings that you and your family and share together to remember the happenings of this weekend many years ago.
Friday: Mark 14:43-50 & Mark 15:21-41
The story of Jesus being arrested and crucified can be a difficult story to share with little ones. I encourage you to approach this story in a way that is comfortable for you but also do your best not to avoid the story altogether. As the children learn in the final lesson of The Faces of Easter, you can’t have the joy of Easter Sunday without the sadness of Good Friday.
Saturday: Mark 15:42-47
Mark doesn’t actually record anything that happened on Saturday. The story of the burial of Jesus is the story that I selected for this day. Or you can follow a different tradition and keep this say silent. Abstain from excess noise and stay away from technology as much as possible to remember the silence and stillness that was felt so long ago.
Sunday: Mark 16:1-8
Finally Easter Sunday! The day that we have all been waiting for all Lenten season. Mark’s telling of Easter Sunday can be a dramatic one and leaves you with a cliffhanger. This can be frustrating but also leaves it open for us to continue to revel in the excitement that Jesus is still alive today.
