Personally – September 22, 2019

“But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
(see John 14)

You can take God’s word personally. When the Lord says he loves us, forgives us, is at work to save and redeem us, it is more than vague gesturing of cosmic energy. How can a distant, holy, sometimes wrathful-against-evil God know us individually and personally? The way Jesus does. The way Jesus demonstrates the ministry of salvation, justice, and compassion, reveals the nature of God’s relationship to us. We see Jesus; we see the Father. Even if we should seek to avoid a personal relationship with God, we find it impossible to flee (see Psalm 139).

In light of this, we learn the nature of our ministry with each other and with the world: it is relational. This is one of our church’s core values.

Tomorrow, let us contemplate the attentive love of God. In song, text, and prayer, let us allow the Spirit to shape us and solidify us as a community who knows and lives out the love of God, personally
