What Lives, What Dies? – June 14th

Uprooting, planting. My yard, my soul.
Fruit of the Spirit.

ZOOM CHURCH

Fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23. Love, joy, peace, etc., all sound wonderful. When we feel emotionally aligned, or morally motivated, perhaps we strive to “achieve” this fruit.

But fruit is not “achieved.” It is born, it grows, from roots, soil, water, and light. Other plants in the way must be uprooted; branches, vines, even on good plants, must be pruned.

We are asking ourselves, collectively, how to make significant changes across society, as Black Lives Matter and other movements raise awareness. To change what is external in a significant way, Jesus asks his followers to make changes internally. It is all connected. A key question for us as individuals, as a church, and all across the board: what lives, what dies? To bear the fruit we seek, what must be removed, what must be released? What must be uprooted, what must be pruned? What lives, what dies?

LITURGY OF LAMENT, JUNE 7th

“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it;
if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”
1 Corinthians 12:26

Putting together the liturgy for June 7th was cathartic for me. Connecting the prophetic Word and the witness of the Gospels to our current time is important. I shared it with a few people beyond Emmaus Road. It remains available here, in case you would like to revisit or pass along.

NO HAPPY HOUR THIS WEEK

We normally enjoy a happy hour each Wednesday at 7:30 pm. This Wednesday, June 17th, though, our schedule will be interrupted, as Pastor Likkel will be conducting another meeting. We will return to our previously scheduled program, June 24th.
