Night He was Betrayed – Oct 11th
THIS paragraph from 1 Corinthians may sound familiar, from times we have shared the bread of Communion, the Eucharist:
“For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed,
took bread, and when he had given thanks,
he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you;
do this in remembrance of me.'”
WE OFTEN FOCUS on the bread, a symbol of Jesus’s sacrificial body, and the commandment to continue sharing the loaf, in faith and remembrance.
But notice, for a moment, the word “BETRAYED”. Here is Jesus, breaking bread, remaining FAITHFUL, generous, and sacrificial, knowing he is in the presence of followers who would betray or abandon him that very night.
OUR ONGOING study of the Fruit of the Spirit includes FAITHFULNESS. Tune in tomorrow to see the connection between this story and this spiritual fruit.
