Small Starts – Dec 6th
“Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Luke 1:30-33
EVERY CHRISTMAS, the people of Christ start over. We start over small. We start with the birth of a baby, born to Mary, a humble first-time mother, alongside her much older relative Elizabeth, also a first-time mother.
The miracles and prophecies around Jesus and John’s births portend worldwide, everlasting, life transformation, for all of us.
But the future starts small and fragile, with babies born to people far from places of political, economic, of social influence.
Eventually, Nicodemus the Pharisee would hear the words about how it must always begin – for every one of us – as a small start, in each of our hearts; to be “born again.”
OUTSIDERS
The Sunday prior to our SERVE TOGETHER event, Christina Smith from Aurora Commons joined us as our SPOTLIGHT BEYOND SUNDAY guest. She encouraged us to listen to Outsiders, a podcast produced by KNKX. This series is recommended as an accurate portrayal of the struggle to survive for unsheltered neighbors in our region.
Episode One is aptly titled, “THE RAIN.”
