Building a House… – Jan 3rd
…THAT WON’T WASH AWAY
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
Matthew 7:24-25
and puts them into practice
is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose,
and the winds blew and beat against that house;
yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
WE LIVE IN A LAND OF LANDSLIDES. It has been raining A LOT. In case I hadn’t noticed, my iPhone weather app has alerted me to this reality. Soil is saturated; sloping ground moves. Good building material and solid foundations are especially important.
At the beginning of a new year, as many are charting a new course, thinking strategically, or hoping for the best, it is wise to recall Jesus’s words at the end of his Sermon on the Mount. There is both a warning and a promise. There will be storms, but there is a rock. It is possible to build a house that won’t wash away.
